You’ll have to wait for over a year for the next Wizard World Comic Con, but you’ll have plenty of memories to recall during that stretch if you caught it last weekend.

Make it out to Metairie to see the bluesy rockers from Kansas Midnight Ghost Train at the Babylon on Thursday night at 10 p.m.

Opening Friday night is Rise Fest; a three night stint of noise, punk, hardcore, and more at Siberia. All three nights will be packed with over six bands each and will feature groups from this city, throughout the south, and a few from the north. The tickets are $15 for each night at the door or $35 weekend pass at the door. You can see the lineup here. Too add more darkness to this festive time of year, Prytania Theater’s Midnite Movie this week is V/H/S about a group of thieves who find strange video tapes in a building they’re burglarizing.

The lovely ladies of Slow Burn Burlesque are celebrating the birth of Christ before Christmas arrives. On Saturday at 10 p.m., regular Slow Burners will be joined by Bella Blue, Aurora Natrix, and Morgan La Rue to strip down for Xmas at the Jesus Big Birthday Bash at the Howlin’ Wolf. Tickets are $15, and, yes, there will be cake.

It’s time to buy presents if you haven’t been doing so already. And there are lots of local businesses that are ready to help you with just that. The OCH Holiday Art Market begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday morning and ends at 3 p.m. Local vendors will have arts, crafts, and many other handmade items available. Even the Locavores will have a gift table! The market is located at 1618 Oretha C. Haley Blvd.  Also on Saturday at 10 a.m. is the Freret Market’s Frerestivus. There will be vendors of clothing, art, food, and more, as well as traditional Festivus events like the Airing of Grievances and Feats of Strength with the Big Easy Rollergirls. Three bands will provide a backdrop of live music; The Tin Men, Debauche, and John Mooney.
