It’s bittersweet times in Hollywood this week as illustrious actor Daniel Day-Lewis announced that he is retiring from acting in a statement to the press. Day-Lewis is a beloved actor and has earned many awards and nominations for his roles in films like In the Name of the Father, Gangs of New York, Lincoln, My Left Foot, and of course, There Will Be Blood. When questioned about his motivations for retiring, Day-Lewis’ spokesman stated that “this is a private decision and neither he nor his representatives will make any further comment on the subject.” Day-Lewis’ final film, Phantom Thread, directed by Paul Anderson from There Will Be Blood, is set to premiere in theaters this holiday season.
