Copper Vine, a new wine pub, is set to replace Happy’s Irish Pub on Poydras Street. It is a product of Brechtel Hospitality Group (BHG), which also owns Fulton Alley and Bonfire Catering.

Copper Vine aims to build on the pub, or public house, philosophy, thus making wine a more accessible and less intimidating hobby. The establishment will serve as a casual social environment where friends and acquaintances can gather, relax, and enjoy good food and wine.

The wine list will feature 30 varieties on tap. Owner Kyle Brechtel, founder/president of BHG, installed the tap system for good reason. Taps, as opposed to traditional bottle service, offer solutions to problems such as oxidation, waste, slow service, and high cost. There will also be 20 lesser-known varieties from around the world available in bottles. 8 local beers will be available on tap along with classic cocktails and signature spirits.

Chef Mike Brewer will be in charge of the food at Copper Vine. Brewer is a veteran of the New Orleans food scene, having worked at establishments such as Brennan’s, Commander’s, and The Sammich, his own award-winning spot. The menu was thoughtfully designed to compliment the wine and will offer innovations on casual cuisine synonymous with the pub experience. Expect to see dishes like Murder Point oysters with pineapple-mint gelée, topped with Cajun caviar; duck confit flatbread with bacon jam, goat cheese, and micro arugula; and short ribs with parmesan flan.

Copper Vine will be located at 1009 Poydras Street in the CBD and will open late this summer.
