Juneteenth is right around the corner and The Edgar "Dooky" Jr. and Leah Chase Family Foundation is planning a celebration to commemorate the day. The foundation will host a formal dinner, complete with five different courses, at Dooky Chase Restaurant, located at 2301 Orleans Ave., on June 19. With this event, the foundation joins an increasing number of groups across the country planning formal celebrations of Juneteenth and will be one of the first major Juneteenth events in the New Orleans area.
"The June 19th event will focus on the on-going efforts of Black people to realize the American Dream of Liberty and Love!" according to the evening's event page.
The event will also feature live performances by various African-American opera, gospel, and pop singers, singing songs that highlight the struggle for freedom, according to the event page. Four generations of individuals from the Chase family will lead spoken word performances during the event as well.
The Juneteenth celebration is a fundraiser for the Chase Family Foundation with four different sponsorship levels available, each offering different perks at the event.
The Platinum Sponsor ticket will cost you $10,000 but gets your name included in the printed program, 14 reserved tickets to the dinner, and six reserved seats for the ribbon-cutting and dinner ceremony for the "Upstairs at Dooky Chase" opening.
Gold Sponsor tickets cost $5,000. This includes your name in the program, eight reserved tickets to the dinner, and four reserved seats for the ribbon-cutting and dinner ceremony as mentioned above. Gold Sponsor tickets are sold out at this time.
Silver Sponsor tickets cost $2,500 and provide sponsors with their name in the program, six reserved seats for the dinner, and two reserved seats for the ribbon-cutting and dinner ceremony.
