Xscape is back! The group recently announced that they would be reuniting but never released a date. Well, wait no longer, because the 2017 Essence Music Festival will be their first performance since the 1990s. The group is using the festival to kick off their upcoming tour.

Who is Xscape? The girl group began their journey in the early 90s, and members include Kandi Burruss, LaTocha Scott, Tameka Cottle, and Tamika Scott. They are known for their hit songs “Just Kickin’ It,” “Who Can I Run To,” “The Arms of the One Who Loves You,” and “My Little Secret.” Over the years, the group recorded three consecutive platinum albums, and six of their songs made the Billboard Hot 100 in the 90s.

The group’s decision to reunite was based on inspiration. Lately, their songs have been featured in newer R&B and hip hop songs. In 2008, musical artist Wale featured Xscape in his song “I Will” by using their song as his chorus. In 2015, music artist Mila J covered the song “Just Kickin’ It.” Most recently, June’s Diary, a group formed by former Destiny’s Child member Kelly Rowland, covered their song “Tonight.”

The group will take the stage in the Essence 2017 Superlounge on July 2. In addition to Xscape, other performers will include Chance the Rapper, Elle Varner, Orleans Avenue, Master P, Silkk, and Trombone Shorty.

Tickets can be purchased at essencefestival.com. Single day tickets can be purchased on the website as well. Congrats to the group on their new beginnings!
