Breaux Mart Supermarkets tweeted on Wednesday that they will not be selling King Cakes with purple sprinkles because the Vikings play the Saints on Sunday. The Vikings colors are white, gold, and purple. While the yellow-gold sprinkles will be on King Cakes, the purple sprinkles will be missing.
The altered King Cakes will only be sold this Saturday, January 4th. The Saints play the Vikings in the playoffs on Sunday, January 5. Kickoff is at 12:05 pm.
The traditional start of Carnival is this Monday, January 6, which is the Epiphany. However, Breaux Mart is selling King Cakes currently for people looking to get a taste of Mardi Gras early.
