Walker Residency at Chickie Wah Wah Features Brian Seeger
Saxophone impresario Brad Walker's November show at his new residency at Chickie Wah Wah solidified his Mid-City drawing power.
A full house came to support Walker and his quartet on this first Thursdays of the month. The quartet was comprised of Sam Kuslan, Lex Warshawsky, and Pedro Segundo. Special guests guitarist Brian Seeger and vocalist Mikayla Braun took the stage to join the fun.
Seeger—billed as a featured artist—is a guitarist, composer, producer, educator, recording engineer, bandleader, and forensic musicologist. He is also a full professor in the Music Department of the University of New Orleans.
Walker's two-hour set included free- and modal-jazz in the tradition of John Coltrane.
"This is incredible," Walker noted at one point, clearly overwhelmed by the ensemble. "Understand, we've never rehearsed any of this before. It's the first time we are playing this together—ever!"
The audience happily cheered the accomplishment.
The Brad Walker Quartet's next Chickie Wah Wah appearance is scheduled to feature Jordan Anderson on December 4.
