Bon Appétit Magazine, a food and culture magazine that's been around since 1956, has named Turkey and the Wolf, the new sandwich restaurant located in the Irish Channel, America's best new restaurant.
"Were we prepared to call a quirky, nostalgic, counter service-only sandwich spot our No. 1 new restaurant in America? A place that serves what some might call, for better or for worse, stoner food?," writes Andrew Knowlton, Bon Appétit's restaurant editor. "Yes, we were."
Turkey and the Wolf serves sandwiches and cocktails in a quirky, colorful, upbeat environment. The restaurant was just opened this August by Mason Hereford, previously Coquette's chef de cuisine, along with his girlfriend Lauren Holton.
Knowlton said what truly won him over was the manner in which Chef Hereford somehow intertwines childhood memories into his menu's recipes.
"Every dish and cocktail has a backstory or a memory that it's rooted in," writes Knowlton. "Then Mason and his team rip that idea to pieces, play with it, reassemble it, and, ultimately, improve it to the point where it becomes something totally new."
Turkey and the Wolf is located at 739 Jackson Ave. and is open Wednesday - Monday: 11am - 9pm and Sunday: 11am - 5pm. Visit their site for more info!
