Big Freedia's Soul Food Pop-Up Pops at Cafe Reconcile

The unequivocal Queen of Bounce Big Freedia showed off her burgeoning culinary prowess at a special pop-up dinner at Cafe Reconcile on the ever-changing Oretha Castle Haley Blvd. The multi-course dinner was hostessed by her partner-in-crime, Katy Red, who assigned seats to the attendees. Everyone was served a salad, entree, and delicious dessert by the staff all sporting airbrushed Big Freedia Soul Food shirts. They were either a student of Cafe Reconcile's program or one of Big Freedia's dancers; all were incredibly unique looking with fancy jewelry, well manicured hair, or long bedazzled nails. Big Freedia stood in the kitchen most of the time making sure that each plate of soul food was perfect before leaving for its guest. I had the fresh house salad, fried catfish with a perfect crispy crust atop seafood and beef stuffing alongside melty baked macaroni and sweet corn with a side of green onion potato salad, and a very rich, thick bread pudding covered in white and milk chocolate syrup. It was almost too much to eat! Big Freedia plans on popping up in many places around town, so be sure to follow her so that you can get a little bit of soul and bounce into your diet.
