Tonya Boyd-Cannon & Friends was smashing at Café Istanbul last week. Our writer Kimmie Tubre had this to say about the songstress’s performance: “Her vibe and stage presence is witty and dope. She will make you laugh and cry in the same set, for sure at some point you will be in tears. She is a crowd drawing charismatic performer with one of the best voices I've heard in a while.” Tonya Boyd-Cannon has some more shows scheduled soon and I’ll let you know of more chances to hear her. This week is pretty special for us here at Where Y’at. We’re throwing a party and want you to join us!

Bluesman Marc Stone plays an early set for the working folk in the CBD at the Little Gem Saloon on Wednesday at 5 p.m.

Beginning on Friday night and lasting each night until the 13th, you can see the classic treasure Creature from the Black Lagoon in re-mastered 3-D at the Chalmette Movies at 1 and 9 p.m. for $6.75. It’s the first Friday in June which means that you’re invited to First Fridays on Fulton. Beginning at 5 p.m., you can watch live music and eat crawfish and enjoy food samples from the pedestrian malls fantastic restaurants all for free.

Saturday is Where Y’at Best of the Big Easy bash at Generation’s Hall. If you purchase a VIP ticket, you can enter at 9 p.m. and enjoy complimentary beverages and food. If you’d prefer to come later, there is no cover charge. Yet, you’ll be witness to the best entertainment in the city: Mississippi Rail Company and Flow Tribe performing live, a fashion show by Hemline, and some special dance numbers by Fleur de Tease. You can come to the dark side later that night and nearby at the Howlin’ Wolf Den as the Fangtasia III Countdown Party will bring out the vampire in you with Shrapnihil and Voltaire beginning at 9 p.m. for $17. Or bring your after party Uptown to Tipitina’s where Kermit Ruffins is holding his CD release party at 10 p.m. for $15.

Still up for some fun on Sunday? The W Hotel on Poydras Street hosts Adults/Swim beginning at 11 a.m. The rooftop pool is free and open to the public for free and drinks and food are available. A DJ will be keeping the tunes spinning.
