Best French Quarter Fest Bites

French Quarter Fest is a free spring festival in the French Quarter, with stages set up along the Riverwalk, in Jackson Square, and other spots nearby in the Vieux Carré. New Orleans has a rich a diverse food scene, and French Quarter Fest is a perfect representation of what the city has to offer.

From traditional local dishes to international bites, the festival has it all. Head to the French Quarter from April 16 to April 19 to taste what NOLA is serving up. Here 10 of the delicious and unique dishes available at French Quarter Fest this year.

1. Prime Rib Debris Po Boy

For a dish that is rich but comforting, the Rib Room's prime rib debris po-boy is a good choice. The Rib Room takes its slow-roasted prime rib, chops it, and then piles it onto French bread with horseradish sauce. The meat has a juicy consistency and savory flavors, making it good option for a refuel between sets.

In addition to the po-boy, the Rib Room will also serve their seafood jambalaya.

2. Skinny Grenade

Tropical Isle's Skinny Grenade is a refreshing option on a hot day in the Quarter. It keeps the signature tropical fruit flavors featured in the original drink, but tones down the sweetness, making it more drinkable over a long afternoon. Despite this, the drink still contains a high alcohol content, so it is important to sip carefully. Whether you're walking along the riverfront or partying at a nearby stage, the Skinny Grenade will keep vibes up.

Of course, Tropical Isle will still be serving their classic Hand Grenade drink, in addition to the Tropical Itch and Happy Gator.

3. Blackened Crawfish Nachos

Restaurant R'evolution's blackened crawfish nachos are full of flavor. The crawfish is blackened to bring out smokey, spicy flavors. This is layered over crispy tortilla chips with spicy cheese sauce, tomato, and green onions. Every bite it filled with spicy heat, richness, and crunch. It incorporates classic nachos with Louisiana flavors and is ideal for sharing.

Restaurant R'evolution will also serve Cajun shrimp salad lettuce with celery, chives, and lemon zest. For dessert, they will offer their banana pudding cake with bourbon caramel sauce and vanilla whipped cream.

4. Crabmeat Beignet

Loretta's Authentic Pralines has been the home for sweet treats in New Orleans for over 35 years, serving the best beignets for miles around. At the festival, they'll be bringing out their famous crabmeat beignet, a light fluffy beignet stuffed with savory crabmeat and drizzled with their special sauce to merge these amazing flavors into one addictive beignet.

Of course, Loretta's Authentic Pralines will still be serving their namesake praline sweets, including praline beignets, different flavors of pralines, praline shoe sole, and their sweet potato cookies. So if you need to satisfy that sweet tooth, Loretta's is there for you.

5. Baked Macaroni

Jack Dempsey's is serving macaroni done right to give you a taste of some cheesy goodness. With their baked macaroni, you'll get to enjoy penne pasta baked with several different cheeses that meld together into a concoction of perfect flavors.

For those craving macaroni with a bit more, Jack Dempsey's is also offering up their fried shrimp & baked macaroni combo, stuffed crab & baked macaroni, and soft shell crab & baked macaroni for some seafood flair. So don't fall behind and miss out on these scrumptious dishes with generous portions.

6. Hot Honey Beignet Sandwich

Willie Mae's hot honey beignet sandwich is crispy with fried chicken tucked between beignets and covered in hot honey, perfectly combining sweet and savory. The combination of flavors and textures creates a meal that is crunchy, soft, sweet, and savory all at once.

Willie Mae's will also serve their classic fried chicken wings with original batter or flavored naked wings. For a variation, they also offer the Hardhide-flavored peach wings and chimichurri wings, as well.


7. Crawfish Bread

With lines at the French Quarter Festival being fairly long, you'll want to find something that will fill you up and keep you going through the day. With TJ Gourmet, you'll be served by an experienced food vendor team that specialize in serving at these types of hectic festivals.

At this particular festival, TJ Gourmet will be serving their amazing crawfish bread, stuffed with crawfish tails, three cheeses, green onions, and Creole spices, all baked into a pack of delectable bites. TJ Gourmet will also be serving Louisiana blue crab cakes and alligator sausage kabobs, generously covered in seasonings to bring out the tangy and savory flavors of these dishes.

8. BBQ Shrimp Po-Boy

Established in 1991, Dickie Brennan & Co. is a restaurant group of four iconic spots located in New Orleans' French Quarter and, at this year's festival, they're serving up some savory classics.

With their BBQ shrimp po-boy, you'll be eating a po-boy stuffed with gigantic and juicy shrimp slathered in their original New Orleans BBQ sauce. With four decades of experience, anything Brennan & Co. is serving up is certain to leave you filled to the brim and satisfied.

9. Gumbo Ramen

Thai Nola's Gumbo Ramen blends two comfort traditions into something new. The broth carries the smoky flavors of the gumbo while the noodles add the familiar ramen flavor. The dish is loaded with protein, combining chicken breast, beef sausage, and chicken sausage. Gumbo Ramen, rich and warming, serves as a filling option during the fest.

For more Thai flavors, they will also offer chicken or vegan pad Thai—rice noodles with egg, sweet tamarind sauce, chicken, carrots, white onion and green onion. Those who don't eat meet can get the veggie version with cabbage, carrots, green beans, and bean sprouts.

10. Mardi Gras Pasta

Oceana Grill's pasta dish brings Mardi Gras energy to your plate. A creamy, alfredo sauce covers the noodles with a mix of proteins and spices. It is filling and hearty without being too heavy. It is a solid option for those who need to refuel in a celebratory way. The pasta combines Gulf shrimp, crawfish tails, bell peppers, and onions.

In addition to the pasta, Oceana Grill will serve a blacked shrimp po-boy dressed with coleslaw and remoulade sauce, as well as blackened mozzarella sticks covered in BBQ shrimp sauce. To keep up with the unique flavors, they will also offer a soft pretzel served with crawfish mushroom cream sauce or queso.
