People are still buzzing about the ostrich and camel races at the Fairgrounds. There are a few events this week that are certainly different that I think you'll enjoy.

Wednesday night at 6 p.m., the Charitable Film Network wants to teach you about dirt. Screening at Café Istanbul in the New Orleans Healing Center on St. Claude Avenue, Dirt is a film about the importance of the ground on which we live, and how we are affected by it.

Although, Freret Street Boxing has been relocated to Oretha C. Haley Blvd., the Friday Night Fight will be held outside on the corner of Freret Street and Napoleon Avenue at 7 p.m. The entrance fee at the gate is $20, but ladies who wear a complete bikini and men who wear a "banana hammock" will be allowed in for free! I would highly advise you to bring mosquito spray if you're going that route.

On Saturday, start the day with a matinee. NOMA is hosting the film My Louisiana Love a Houma Indian woman who tries to understand the environmental damage of her home. The film beings at 2 p.m. The screening is included in the cost of museum admission. The Krewe of Oak is celebrating Midsummer Mardi Gras Parade with a walking parade beginning at the Maple Leaf Bar on Oak Street at 7:30 p.m. The Intergalactic Krewe of Chewbaccus will also be coming out for the occasion, holding the fort down nearby at More Fun Comics before the parade. Or, of course, you can settle into any bar and watch the Saint's play a very important pre-season game at 7 p.m.

There is music going on all day Sunday, but of many different varieties. The centurion + 1 Lionel Ferbos performs at the Norwegian Seaman's Church at 1:30 p.m. located at 1772 Prytania Street. Just after that, noise rock band Lightening Bolt plays with Cloud Rat and Thou at the Big Top during their weekly Punk Rock Takeover at 2 p.m. for $5. And much later after that, the Noisician Coalition is holding their 6th annual Underpants Party at Siberia at 10 p.m. for free. The theme is 1990s Decatur Street, and as always, underwear (only) is encouraged. There will be no Sunday Night Double Feature, however.
