23rd Annual Louisiana Writer Award recipient has been Selected
Folsom native Armand has been selected by the The Louisiana Center for The Book in the State Library as the 23rd annual winner of the Louisiana Writer Award. The award is given annually as a recognition of the contributions of excellent contemporary writers to the literary culture of Louisiana.
David Armand
Armand's story is interesting, having previously worked in construction drafting plans and hanging drywall. Now, Armand works at Southeastern Louisiana University as an Assistant professor in Creative Writing. Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser had this to say about Armand's selection: ""Through his novels set in Louisiana, his revelatory poetry, and a memoir that demonstrates his perseverance in overcoming and rising above obstacles to become the accomplished writer he has become, Armand and his work represent so much about the indomitable Louisiana spirit with which we all can identify."
Other Accomplishments
This is not Armand's first award and it certainly will not be his last. He has been invited to the Louisiana Book festival six separate occasions as a featured author and his novel The Pugilist's Wife won him the George Garrett Fiction Prize. Upon learning about his selection, Armand stated: "As a lifelong Louisianan, I can't begin to express how much being honored by my home state in this way means to me. This is the biggest honor I've ever received for my work, and I am very much looking forward to representing our great state's cultural achievements."
Armand will formally receive the award on Saturday October 29th during the opening ceremony of the Louisiana Book Festival in Baton Rouge. For more information regarding Armand visit the Louisiana Book Festival.
