The Contemporary Arts Center is thrilled to announce the call for submissions for their 2022 Artist in Residency Cohort. The CAC's Artist Residencies are an application-based program offering time, space, resources, and professional development opportunities for performing and visual artists in New Orleans. The deadline to apply is February 18, 2022.
The mission of the CAC is a commitment to artists, the presentation of their multidisciplinary work, and advancing the value and power of the art of our time. This mission is visualized by the art at CAC serving as a standard in New Orleans and the Gulf South. They work to enhance connections between artists and communities and, by doing so, they provide a forum for ideas and the exploration of a just society through artistic creation, public engagement, and institutional practice. They aim to advance dialogue around key issues that impact communities and the art of our time.
On top of being a part of this mission and vision, those performing artists and companies selected will be a part of an intensive four-week residencies in the CAC Black Box Theater. They will receive support from CAC technical and curatorial staff, culminating in public work-in-process performances at the end of their session. Visual artists or collectives are offered the opportunity to present new works as part of the CAC's annual SOLOS exhibition. The performances and SOLOS exhibition will be open to the public.
This year, two performing artists/companies and two visual artists/collectives will be selected for participation. Visual artists will work with a curator to build shows off-site for installation in the CAC's second floor gallery. Each of the selected artists/companies will be paid a $1,000 artist stipend.
Submissions will be accepted until February 18, 2022 at 11:59 pm. Once submissions have been closed, CAC staff will reach out to second round applicants with a request for a Zoom interview, which will be conducted the week of March 14, 2022.
