Meet Allison Janae Hamilton and Lauren Groff in NOLA

An exclusive conversation with Allison Janae Hamilton and Lauren Groff will be held at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art on Wednesday, November 29. Doors will open at 6 p.m., and the conversation will begin at 6:30 p.m.

This conversation will be moderated by renowned podcast host Virginia Prescott as the guests dive into their inspirations, influences, and connections between art and the landscapes of Florida.

Expressions of Florida

Acclaimed visual artist Allison Janae Hamilton and bestselling author Lauren Groff, share a deep connection with the state of Florida. The two often draw inspiration from the state's rich history and ever-changing landscapes. The conversation between the two will be an exploration of their creative processes and relationships with the environment, culture, and climate of the American South.

This event will be an insightful dive into the creative minds of two talented artists, who both have been deeply influenced by Florida's unique landscapes and history. Attending this conversation will be an excellent opportunity to gain new insights into the world of art and the American South's cultural and environmental influences.

A one-time-only giveaway for those who attend this event will be taking place, and guests will also have the chance to purchase signed copies from Blue Cypress Books of Lauren Groff's book Florida.

This event is hosted by the Poydras Corridor Sculpture Exhibition and presented by The Helis Foundation. Additionally, Hamilton's sculpture "Love is like the sea…" is currently on view as part of the Poydras Corridor Sculpture Exhibition presented by The Helis Foundation.

About the Artists

Lauren Groff is the New York Times bestselling author of four novels, which are The Monsters of Templeton, Arcadia, Fates and Furies, and Matrix. Groff was also a 2018 National Book Award Finalist for her short-story collections: Delicate Edible Birds and Florida. Groff's book Fates and Furies was also a New York Times bestseller, as well as a finalist for the National Book Award and Amazon's #1 Best Book of the Year in 2015. Groff's book Florida was nominated for the 2018 National Book Award and won the prestigious annual Story Prize.

Allison Janae Hamilton has had exhibitions across the U.S. and abroad. Hamilton's work has been displayed in solo exhibitions at the Georgia Museum of Art, the Joslyn Art Museum, Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art, and Atlanta Contemporary, as well as a commissioned solo project with Creative Time. Artorks by Hamilton are held in public collections such as the Hood Museum of Art, The Menil Collection, Nasher Museum of Art, Nevada Museum of Art, Speed Museum of Art, and others. Hamilton has also participated in numerous fellowships and residencies. Additionally, Hamilton is the recipient of the Creative Capital Award and the Rema Hort Mann Foundation Grant.
