Adopt-a-Cop 2026

The New Orleans Police and Justice Foundation is a non-profit taking donations for officers working during Mardi Gras. These donations, called Adopt-a-Cop, will be used to purchase meals, snacks, and drinks as a "thank you" for the police department's efforts amidst the chaos and excitement of Carnival.

How to Adopt-a-Cop

Visit the New Orleans Police and Justice Foundation's website to donate any dollar amount you can extend to the department via their Adopt-a-Cop initiative. Donors can select the frequency of their donation: once, monthly, or annually.

To complete the submission, contact information must be provided, including your name and address. A method of payment must also be selected and provided in the foundation's chosen transaction processor.

Why Donate?

While there are many family-friendly aspects of Carnival, it is important to also consider how the crowds, energy, and possible use of substances can lead to accidents or disturbances, which require first responder attention.

The New Orleans police often respond to medical emergencies, find a child who has wandered away from their family into the masses, and retrieve littered parade throws. Combined with standing along the parade routes for over 100 hours and frequently relocating barricades, Mardi Gras makes for a tiring shift requiring great attention.

Giving back to the department via donations for food enables the officers to sustain their energy and create the safest Mardi Gras environment for parade-goers.

New Orleans Police and Justice Foundation

The New Orleans Police & Justice Foundation strives to uplift the police and justice departments via community engagement and advocacy. In doing so, the foundation has established the Tragedy Fund, the Tuition Assistance Program, the Adopt-a-Block initiative, and the OPISIS Technology initiative.

The Tragedy Fund supports injured officers by providing them and their families with necessary assistance to relive financial burdens. Tee Tuition Assistance Program assists NOPD employees by offsetting the cost of college.

From technologically-minded advocacy, the foundation created the Adopt-a-Block initiative, which provides residents in high crime areas with the installation of security cameras. An additional initiative, with OPISIS Technology, is intended to support officers as they track crime through the use of quality analysis software.
