Yeah, is one of those "dying" films, and the filmmakers injected it with cutesy comedy that renders it tasteless. Marley Corbett (Kate Hudson) is a single and successful young woman who is diagnosed with colon cancer. this shattering news, however, doesn't deter her from pursuing a relationship with the studly young doctor (Gael García Bernal) who is treating her. on the home front, Marley pushes her mother (Kathy Bates) away emotionally while, at the same time, seeking her father's (treat Williams) love. this is all pretty superficial in execution, rather surprising from the director of the terrific The Woodsman, nicole Kassell. a comedy about cancer can be done right, and it was—in last year's 50/50. the reason 50/50 works is because underneath the comedy there is a real sense of fear, sadness and anger coming from the main character. Here, in Heaven, we get a booty call with a dwarf and Whoopi Goldberg appearing as God. Well, A Little Bit of Heaven was shot here in new orleans, as many films are these days, but the story is actually set here, so we do get to see new orleans play new orleans. it's just too bad it's in such a lousy movie. Do yourself a favor and go see Cabin in the Woods instead.
