Haven’t had good, crispy southern catfish in a long time? Now you can again at Barrow’s Catfish which reopens today after more than a decade since it was closed due to Katrina’s destruction.

Locals may fondly remember this family owned and operated restaurant as Barrow’s Shady Inn which opened in 1943 and only served fried catfish. But with its return, Barrow’s promises an expanded menu featuring other seafood selections such as gumbo, shrimp, and crawfish. Don’t worry though, their namesake, catfish, will of course still be offered.

The new restaurant is located at 8300 Earhart Boulevard and will be open from 11 a.m.- 9 p.m. on Monday through Thursday and on Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m.- 10 p.m.

Today they’ll start serving at 11 a.m. right after a ribbon-cutting ceremony, so drive on over for some delicious catfish, but be wary, there might already be a line of locals ready to take a trip down memory lane and relive the famous food and experience at Barrow’s.
