11 Ways to Celebrate Veterans Day in New Orleans

Every year, on November 11, the United States celebrates Veterans Day. This holiday honors those who have served in the United States Armed Forces. November 11 also commemorates the day that World War I officially ended. Whether you have someone close to you who is active or retired military or a veteran, or you're just thankful for those who have fought for your freedom, now is your chance to honor them. Here are 11 ways to celebrate Veterans Day this year.

Honor and Duty: The Chinese American WWII Veterans Panel

Join the War World II Museum; E. Samantha Cheng, the author of Honor and Duty: The Chinese American WWII Veterans; and other panel members as they discuss the lives and service of the Chinese American soldiers who fought in WWII. Honoring Veterans Day, this webinar on Facebook mainly discusses how, after the bombing of Pear Harbor, almost 20 percent of the Chinese American population signed up and fought for every branch of the United States Armed Forces. Sport Clips Haircuts

For Veterans Day on Wednesday, November 11, participating Sport Clips Haircuts locations will be supporting the Help A Hero cause, by offering free haircuts to active-duty U.S. service members and veterans with valid proof of service. There are two participating locations in Greater New Orleans that will be honoring the veterans on Wednesday, in Metairie and Kenner. Sports Clips is the hair salon for men, whose mission is "to provide a championship haircut experience in an exciting sports-themed environment." You do not need an appointment; walk-ins are always welcome.

Veterans Plaza

In St. Tammany Parish on Veterans Day, the Veterans Plaza will be rededicated at the Parish Justice Center, according to Nola.com. The parish will be unveiling about 500 refurbished bricks that honor local veterans. A registry helping visitors locate a particular veteran's honorary brick on-site will also be presented at the Veterans Plaza. Lane Carson, a spokesperson for the Veterans Foundation, stated that he is looking forward to the event, saying, "This is going to be a special event to honor our veterans." Veterans Day at the Museum

Visit the World War II Museum on Wednesday, November 11, to honor U.S. veterans. Veterans of all military conflicts will be given free admission. The WWII Museum will also be hosting all-day engaging online commemorative programming, and the online stream begins at 11 a.m. on Veterans Day. The popular retail corporation Target will be supporting veterans and military members this Veterans Day to thank them for serving our nation and communities. Between November 1 and November 11, Target will be offering a 10 percent discount to all U.S. active-duty military personnel, veterans, and their families. Red Lobster

The most delicious way to honor Veterans Day this year is at Red Lobster. On Wednesday, November 11, the restaurants will be thanking veterans, active-duty personnel, and reservists for their services with a free appetizer or dessert. New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saints are honoring veterans and active-duty military this Veterans Day with an online apparel collection. The 2020 Salute to Service collection features sweatshirts, long-sleeve and short-sleeve shirts, beanies, hats, and more. Items were designed using military uniforms as inspiration, and some products feature a military American flag patch. Celebrate Veterans Day this year with a hot-brewed cup of coffee at Starbucks. For every cup of hot-brewed coffee, Starbucks will be donating 25 cents to support the mental health of military communities. The donations will be split between Team Red, White & Blue (Team RWB) and Headstrong Project, two nonprofit organizations that support the well-being and mental health of military communities. The Victory Belles Salute to Veterans

Another event at the World War II Museum for Veterans Day is the Victory Belles' Salute to Veterans. On Wednesday, November 11, the Victory Belles will be giving a special livestream performance for veterans around the world.
