The Andrew Jackson Hotel's history is as riveting as its namesake. Originally founded as an orphanage for boys who parents died due to yellow fever, the building fell to the flames of a fire in 1794. The fire also claimed the lives of five young boys. A courthouse was built, where a then General Andrew Jackson was held in contempt of court for obstruction of justice.
