Here to kick off Essence Festival 2018, NOMTN (New Orleans Multicultural Tourism Network) hosted their annual Media Luncheon where guests were served creole dishes from Executive Chef Peter Page of the NOPSI Hotel. All welcomed media and guest enjoyed a five-course dining experience that included; Smoked potato soup, a poached pear salad, braised boneless short ribs and much more.
As we filled our mouths with exceptional food, guest speakers hit the podium to inform everyone on what’s to come for this year’s Festival. Now under new ownership, Richelieu Dennis purchased Essence from Time Inc., making it completely black-owned for the first time in about 15 years. With new ownership, it is said that this year is on track to being the biggest- most iconic year since their beginning in 1995. Though, some may argue that a certain top grossing movie put Essence Festival on the map. Hello, Girls Trip.
This year there will be several new features including a new interactive update on the Essence Festival app that will allow guests to customize the Essence experience to their personal likings. From the day seminars to the night concerts, Essence Entertainment Director, Cori Murray said to expect a great Festival this year. “There will be an iconic surprise performance during one of the night shows.”
So what does that mean for concert goers? Well, we all have to wait and see. But attending all three nights will enhance your chances of seeing and experiencing something great.
Essence continues to be a major part of the New Orleans Festival season and culture and one of the top grossing weekends in the city. As they have remained loyal to the Big Easy for several years, we can only hope that they will continue to grace us for years to come.
