Wetlands Sake, Louisiana's first sake brewery, has announced the opening date of their taproom, which will open for New Orleanians to enjoy on January 27, 2022. The grand opening, which will be from 4 to 9 p.m. that day, will feature a crawfish boil, a food truck, and live music, as well as some giveaways.
It will be in the same building as their brewery facility, located at 634 Orange St. in the Lower Garden District. According to a press release from Wetlands Sake, the taproom will feature large picture windows overlooking the facility, as well as outdoor seating with pergolas and a covered patio.
The taproom will offer sake on-tap, along with a selection of limited-edition sakes and cocktail-inspired sake infusions, which can be purchased by the glass or in flights. Additionally, The Commissary, which is a market and eating concept that neighbors Wetlands Sake on Orange Street, will be providing an elevated bar fare menu during the taproom's hours, which will complement the overall experience.
Finding its start in March 2021, Wetlands Sake has been garnering a lot of fanfare in New Orleans, despite opening during the COVID-19 pandemic and before Hurricane Ida struck Louisiana. Founded by NOLA natives Nan Wallis and Lindsey Brower, Wetlands Sake uses Louisiana-grown, short-grain rice, as well as skills gained from Japanese-trained sake brewers, to create a sake that is purely New Orleans.
Currently, the brewery offers these different sake styles/flavors in convenient single serving cans: Filtered, Unfiltered, Passion Fruit, and Blood Orange.
