The fall weather has arrived, and Halloween soirees are in full swing. Before Voodoo heats up next weekend, the local dance music community’s answer to this time of year—Hell’s Gala—will return this Saturday, October 21 for its latest installment at the Float Den, Mardi Gras World. Plus, an official afterparty at the Joy Theater keeps the party going strong into the wee hours of the next breezy morning.
At Hell’s Gala 2017, New Orleans’ headbanging community will savor this lucid dream of a lineup, including headliner Excision, hot off the excessive successes of his first Lost Lands Festival last month. This Canadian bass maestro’s discography spans early releases like X-Rated (2011) (“8 Bit Superhero,” anyone?) to his latest album, Virus (2016) and its recent follow-up Virus: The Remixes (2017).
Providing direct support for Excision is fellow headbanger bait Kayzo, last seen live in New Orleans when he opened for Flux Pavilion at Republic NOLA this past June. Trippy Turtle is in the middle of his Lettuce Turnip tour and has been busy promoting his latest release, The Trippy EP (2017), but you may have also caught his feels-filled afternoon set under the alias Lido at BUKU 2017. Local support comes from P-TAB and sfam, hot off their debut EP release, Expand (2017) on Quality Goods Records.
And if that wasn’t enough bass in your face for one night, the antics continue well into Sunday morning at the Hell’s Gala 2017 Official Afterparty at Joy Theater. Liquid Stranger and Manic Focus serve as the afterparty’s main event as they wrap up The Hypercolor Tour with support from Freddy Todd. Members of New Orleans’ own Dohm Collective performing under the moniker Sunsabetchez will also lend a taste of home to help close out the weekend’s hellish affair.
General admission and VIP tickets for both events are still available, in addition to combo ticket options that include both Hell’s Gala and the afterparty.
