I thought it was great that the "surgery" scene in made a couple of people run out of the theater. That's right, filmmaker Ridley Scott still has the power to shock his audience all these years after the chest-burster scene in 1979's Alien. The Prometheus scene in question actually takes that memorable moment from Alien and turns it on its ear. For those of you that are out of the loop, Prometheus is a quasi-prequel to Scott's horror classic Alien. The story here concerns a group of explorers from Earth visiting another planet in an attempt to find clues to the origin of mankind. All hell begins to break loose when they discover the body of a "space jockey." It's a smart science fiction movie, but not quite as deep as it thinks it is, for at its core, Prometheus is basically a monster movie with lots of oozing slime and gross-out moments. But the film is very well-mounted. The original Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, Noomi Rapace, playing scientist Elizabeth Shaw, and Michael Fassbender as android David, both deliver intense performances. and it's directed with unwavering tension by Ridley Scott working at the top of his game.
