Oktoberfest Is A Great Success

Though it was pushed back a few weeks from its historic dates, Deutsches Haus' annual Oktoberfest celebration spanned several weeks and brought thousands of visitors to its fest grounds on the banks of Bayou St. John. The beer from around the world and around town flowed, as did the German Chocolate Cake and schnapps shots. Dancers whirled around to the sounds of the beloved Chicken Dance, which occurred at regular intervals. The Brats rocking polka band also played covers of many different songs and entertaining the crowd with their witty stage banter.

The highlights of the evening (other than the amazing home-cooked meatloaf and red cabbage) were the stein-holding competitions. Men and women competed to see who had the strength to hold a full stein of beer for a few minutes.
