If there's one thing Where Y'At readers know, it's that New Orleans is a city unlike any other. Its rich history, vibrant culture, and unrivaled cuisine all have made the Big Easy a worldwide destination for relaxation. In a recent survey conducted by Alabama-based lifestyle magazine Southern Living, New Orleans ranked #5 on their list of best cities in the South and was quoted as being "one-of-a-kind" and that there's "no fun quite like NOLA fun."

The other top five spots on the list went to Nashville, TN, Asheville, NC, and Savannah, GA, with the #1 best ranking going to Charleston, SC, for some reason.

Also included in the survey were categories like best scenic drives, best museums, best breweries, and best bakeries. While New Orleans was notably absent from these categories, this can be forgiven, considering that most survey participants have likely never driven down a parade krewe's route post-Mardi Gras, made an offering at the altars of the Voodoo Museum, crushed a Paradise Park alongside a couple pounds of boiled crawfish, or even ever heard of Dong Phuong. However, Parkway Bakery & Tavern did get a nod for being a local favorite, and The Joint was named Louisiana's best barbecue.

Southern Living's Editor-in-Chief Sid Evans said, "No one knows this region better than the Southern Living audience, and that's why we tap into their experiences and solicit their opinions every year to determine the South's best. This year's deeply reported list is our most comprehensive yet, with some surprising new favorites, as well as the classics that keep reinventing themselves."

We look forward to seeing the results of next year's survey.
