New Orleans Announces Lottery for Jackson Square Artists

This past week, the City of New Orleans announced that it would be holding its annual lottery for select artists to obtain permits necessary for displaying their work in Jackson Square. The historic square's open-air artist colony offers highly coveted real estate for creative talents who wish to sell their work to the public, but vending is only open to those possessing an Occupational License and Mayoralty Permit, as per city ordinance. The lottery to obtain said permits will be held Saturday, April 9 at 10 am in City Hall, 1300 Perdido St., Room 1W15, and open to all those who meet the right requirements.

Eligibility for obtaining an "Artist A" permit extends to all those who either have a current Pirates Alley "Artist B" permit or have filed an application for a Jackson Square Artist Permit prior to March 1, 2022. All those who meet these requirements and wish to apply for the lottery must do so in person at the Department of Finance's Bureau of Revenue office located on the first floor of City Hall, 1300 Perdido St., Room 1W15. Applications will be open Monday, March 28 through Friday, April 1, between the hours of 9 am and 5 pm. All applicants must present a valid photo ID, and all Pirate Alley permit holders seeking to upgrade must bring their current "Artist B" permits.
