Talk about running out of time. One Canadian man was denied part of a C$27 million dollar jackpot because the ticket was processed seven seconds after the deadline.

Joel Ifergan, bought two tickets shortly before 9p.m. at a convenience store in Toronto, but only one of the tickets, the losing one, was registered in time. The second ticket, the winning one, was registered for the following week’s drawing.

Huffington Post reported that Ifergan sued for his share of the prize, but the Supreme Court of Canada ruled against his claim last Thursday. Ifergan is also suing Loto-Quebec for the processing lag. The case has been working its way through Canada’s courts since the tickets were bought in 2008.
