It’s the beginning of, arguably, the most sweltering month of the year here. August is upon us. I invite you to cool off with these nighttime events.

The long-running rock band Sevendust headlines a show at The Varsity in Baton Rouge with Gemini Syndrome, and Silent Season for $25 at 7 p.m.

To celebrate their 10th anniversary, Southport Hall hosts Southern pop rock band The Gallery with Slack Adjuster on Thursday, July 31, at 7 pm for $15. Dallas metallers on local record label, Housecore Records, Warbeast performs at Siberia with The Void and Six Pack for $10. Coming from down under, Clairy Browne and the Bangin’ Rackettes perform with locals The Honorable South and Will Vance and the Kinfolk at the House of Blues at 7:30 p.m. for $20.

From both our fair city and San Antonio, Texas, Nothing More performs at Rock N’ Blues in Covington with To Whom It May and Drayter on Saturday, August 2nd. Old country/psychobilly/metalhead Hank III, grandson of the legendary Hank Williams and son of Bocephus, performs at the House of Blues at 8 p.m.

With two stages, Cake Fest will be no piece of cake at The Boot and The Mushroom on Sunday, August 3. There will be nearly twenty punk rock bands in two venues including, but certainly not limited to, Dummy Dumpster, Fat Stupid Ugly People, The Bills, Disappointed Parents and more beginning at 5 pm.

Hailing from the northwest, the pop rock/soul outfit Down North plays at Gasa Gasa on Tuesday, August 5.
