Beautiful people from all around the world are filling the hot July streets in droves, dressed to impress and here to spend money and have the time of their lives. Yes, Essence Festival 2019 is here and WYAT is all in the mix, covering the festivities from head to toe. Celebrating 25 years of success, the for day event started on Thursday, the fourth of July, with Essence in the Park. The free celebration was held at Armstrong Park and included several New Orleans favorites and stars from all over. From Big Freedia to soul singer, Tonya Boyd-Cannon, to hip-hop legends MC Lyte and Common, Armstrong park rocked as they welcomed guests in true Big Easy fashion; with food and music.

Thursday night continued with a variety of welcome parties and concerts, that propelled us right into the weekend's festivities. As we hopped from event to event there were a few highlights along the way. Here's my day by day journey through Essence Festival 2019.

Friday (July 5th, 2019)

People were all to ready as The Ernest N. Morial Convention Center opened the doors to let the masses in. Field with bright colors, digital attractions, speakers and vendors like McDonalds, Ford, and Walmart. The Convention Center was a packed, lively house. After bouncing from various vendors, it was time to leave the Downtown traffic and head over to Mid-City where Essence Wine and Sports held The Black Wine Experience --Isiah Thomas meet and greet at the Cannery. Black wine vendors filled the tasting room as guest speakers spoke about the ventures in the wine industry.

As the night continued it was time to get ready for the Nightly concerts held at the Mercedes Benz Superdome. The concert began with A welcome and tribute to the legendary Aretha Franklin which included R&B royales, Brandy and Ledisi. Along the night you could see Morris Day, Sheila E, Doug E. Fresh and more.

As the hours passed and the dome began to fill with patrons, it was time to embrace the electric presence of Ronnie, Bobby, Ricky and Mike; now known as RBRM. They had everyone out of their seats dancing. Just when you thought you could get some rest, Missy Elliot hit the stage with a brilliant performance where she enticed the audience with her charm, energy and positive vibes. Missy brought out special guests like Monica and displayed 3 costume changes wearing electric and sparkling outfits that perfectly fit her personality. Performing all of her hits, including "Get your Freak On" and "Work it", Missy's presence, vibrant stage set, and energetic dancers rocked the house leaving us with a performance worth talking about.

Missy ended the first night of the Essence concert series with a bang. Leaving us waiting and ready for what's next to come.
