Cabaret performer Alexis Michelle, one of the finalists on season 9 of RuPaul’s Drag Race, is set to arrive in New Orleans for an exclusive presentation of her new show, Alexis, I Am! Opening to rave reviews last month at Feinstein’s/54 Below in New York City, Michelle is bringing her one-woman act to One Eyed Jacks on Saturday, March 10 at 8:30 p.m., with doors opening at 8 p.m. Celebrated New Orleans jazz singer Anaïs St. John will be a special guest for this engagement, which is produced, written and directed by James McBride (The War Boys, Informed Consent) of Loyola University.
A favorite among Manhattan’s cabaret circuit, Michelle will incorporate her signature song - Andrew Gold’s 1978 hit “Thank You for Being a Friend,” which is probably better known as the theme song to the 1980’s classic sitcom “The Golden Girls.” Fans of the series might be surprised to learn that the show omitted a verse that was considered too morbid for television in 1985, albeit one that remains intact in Alexis, I Am! Michelle’s sassy, yet touching repertoire also pays tribute to divas the likes of Judy, Liza, Barbra, Madonna, Dolly and Lady Gaga, among others. This one-night-only performance will be followed by a merchandise signing and meet-and-greet with Alexis Michelle. Tickets are $20 and are available at oneeyedjacks.net.
