365 BlackPower Inspiration Luncheon Recap

This past weekend, Essence Fest kicked off with nothing but performances, parties, upscale events, picture worthy moments and so much more. In addition to the amusement, acknowledgment and accomplishment always took center stage during events outside of the music festival thanks to the Convention Center.

McDonald's 365 BlackPower of Inspiration Awards Luncheon took place at the Ritz Carlton in the CBD honoring actress Tichina Arnold ("Survivor's Remorse," "Martin" and "Daytime Divas"), Sanya Boss (Olympic Gold Winner for Track and Field), Marty Gillis (New Jersey owner of McDonald's), and Valeshia Jones (Founder of Women in Entertainment Empowerment Network - WEEN).

Performances from vocal powerhouses Kelly Price and Gospel Singer Jekalyn Carr rocked the audience with empowering lyrics to boost. Edibles consisted of both breakfast goods and lunch delicacies cooked to perfection.

Actress Essence Atkins ("Are We There Yet?" - TV) served as a gracious and eloquent host for the night. Stars like Jesse T. Usher, Marlon Wayans and Timon Durrett were among some the presenters for the power event.

However, it was the consistent speeches of each honoree that consisted of acknowledgment of faith in Christ, gratitude of humble beginnings, triumph through personal setbacks, motivation from family members with medical conditions, and the need to continue to strive forward with a mustard seed of faith.

What was most notable about this year's luncheon was the celebration of black women. Our current generation has seen the desensitizing of the influence of black women thanks to platforms like social media, deep rooted hatred from various forms of racism, the degradation of their worth and more.

What's continually great about 365 organization is that they choose to always put the best about a person in the forefront as opposed to lingering gossip that has no place in the field of accomplishment.

Each honoree exemplified some great words that correlate well with Oprah Winfrey who once said, "It doesn't matter who you are, where you came from. The ability to triumph begins with you."
