The annual Satchmo Summerfest presented by Chevron returns to the New Orleans Jazz Museum at the Mint on August 4-6 this year. In celebration of the festival's 17th anniversary and Louis Armstrong's birthday, this three-day event held at the newly opened museum will pay homage to Satchmo. There will be shade tents and air-conditioned bathrooms to keep festival goers comfortable while they enjoy plenty of local entertainment and food from remarkable New Orleans restaurants.

Satchmo Summerfest has been an annual event since 2001 honoring the musician's 100th birthday and showcases New Orleans native traditions such as a Sunday morning Jazz Mass at the historic St. Augustine Church in Treme and a second line parade. Other special events include the opening reception held at the historic Omni Royal Orleans hotel (the official hotel of Satchmo Summerfest) and a Trumpet Tribute sponsored by Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen which closes the festival. For only a mere five dollars, you can experience a day at the festival which helps support local musicians and pay for the event.

Over one hundred artists will be featured at this year's Satchmo Summerfest representing New Orleans' greatest classic and modern jazz musicians and brass bands. Local musicians are encouraged to submit an online application available through May 31.  The search for the poster artist of the 2017 fest is still ongoing. The application process and full details are posted on the festival's website here. In July, a full schedule and line-up of artists will be released.
