Electric Daisy Carnival Experience Thursday, August 4, 9 p.m. AMC and Hollywood Theatre Locations If you missed the world-class electronic music acts and carnival rides of this year’s Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC), there is hope beyond blogs, YouTube and Facebook.

Volbeat

Wednesday, August 3, 7:30 p.m. House of Blues, 225 Decatur St. 310-4999 In support of the release of the deluxe edition of Volbeat’s latest album, Beyond Hell/ Above Heaven, the band will be touring all summer long, hitting the House of Blues in New Orleans Wednesday, August 3. The Danish metal band first released Beyond Hell/ Above Heaven last September to much critical acclaim, topping the charts in three different countries. A single off that album, “Fallen” marks their first chart-topper in the U.S. Joining Volbeat are Jacksonville rockers Cold, who also just released a new record after a rather lengthy hiatus. Entitled Superfiction, the records already produced a hit single in “Wicked World” mixing futuristic synth beats, blaring guitars, and post-grunge style. Tickets are $25 at the door.—April Siese

Electric Daisy Carnival Experience

Thursday, August 4, 9 p.m. AMC and Hollywood Theatre Locations If you missed the world-class electronic music acts and carnival rides of this year’s Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC), there is hope beyond blogs, YouTube and Facebook. In addition to their five tour stops around the US and Puerto Rico—the closest they came to NOLA was Dallas in mid-June—festival producer Insomniac and the media masters of NCM Fathom have added one more tour date to sate the ears and eyes of the rest of the country’s burgeoning mass of electronic music fans. On August 4 at 9 p.m. local time, more than 520 theaters nationwide will host a documentary screening of the Electric Daisy Carnival Experience, which will feature audio and visual performances filmed live on July 26, as well as exclusive behind-the-scenes interviews and the traditionally wild, colorful and eclectic fashions of EDC fest-goers.

Among the all-star lineup are Deadmau5, Kaskade, Will.I.Am, Swedish House Mafia, Above & Beyond, Benny Benassi, Moby, Fedde Le Grand, MSTRKRFT, Afrojack, a special tribute to DJ AM and more. For tickets and more information about participating theaters, visit www.FathomEvents.com, or call your local box office: the AMC Palace in Elmwood and Harvey and the Hollywood Stadium in Covington, while subject to change, have all confirmed in our area.—Carolyn Heneghan

Krum Bums and Toxic Holocaust

Sunday, August 7, 10 p.m. Siberia, 2227 St. Claude Ave.,265-8855 Austin, Texas, neo-punk rockers Krum Bums are winding their way through the U.S. and stopping at the most notorious punk bar in the city to test their meddle against extreme music lovers. Krum Bums has carved a niche in the punk realm as they draw inspiration from the original punk of the ‘70s and use modern melodies to fuse eras together, which you can hear on their latest creation Cut the Noose, available on August 23. Joining them on the cross-country trek is the classic thrash band Toxic Holocaust. Vocalist and guitarist (who does all of the instrumentation on the albums) Joel Grind is always a thrill to see with his bleach blond hair and jean vest covered in buttons glimmer in the purple and green sci-fi lights. Toxic Holocaust is on the road to promote their brand new album Conjure and Command, which is available in vinyl, of course. No one should miss this classic, high-energy show. —Emily Hingle

Bird Call + Johanna and The Dusty Floor

Thursday, August 11, 10 p.m. AllWays Lounge, 2240 St. Claude Ave. 218-5778 Like New Orleans, New York City is a hot bed of culture and an incubator of fresh styles, producers and voices of music. One particular pair of female singer-songwriters from the Brooklyn scene has teamed up for a dual-coast tour this August with each of their increasingly successful, head-turning bands: Chiara Angelicola of Bird Call and Johanna Cranitch of Johanna and The Dusty Floor. Since Angelicola’s original “Waltz in the Snow” won the Performance category of this year’s International Songwriting Competition, Bird Call’s recently released EP of cover songs, Other Creatures, has been featured on iTunes and received considerable critical acclaim. Cranitch is also touring with her group’s latest release, their first full-length record entitled Northern Lights; Filter Magazine recently featured the album’s first single and video, “Witch Shoes.” Grounding them both are hauntingly beautiful and expressive voices and a shared love of songwriters like Fleetwood Mac and Kate Bush. But their approach to music and the overall production and mood of their recordings are quite different, ensuring a Thursday evening full of high-quality harmonic and lyrical surprises at St. Claude’s AllWays Lounge and Marigny Theater.—Carolyn Heneghan

Harrow & The Harvest, which came out June 28. Welch recorded the album in her own Woodland Sound Studio in Nashville along with longtime musical partner and producer David Rawlings, who will also be joining her on the tour. Though The Harrow & The Harvest comes after eight years of silence from the bluegrass musician, the critical acclaim that the album’s received has made it well worth the wait. Welch’s signature melancholy drawl is in full force, weaving heartbreaking melodies through tales of rural American life to perfectly complement Rawlings’ signature flatpicking with songs such as “Down Along the Dixie Line” and “The Way It Goes”. Tickets are $26 in advance and $31 at the door.
