Jurassic World broke box office records on its opening weekend, bringing in $208.8 million dollars. Beating the record set by Marvel’s The Avengers in 2012, the fourth movie in the Jurassic Park franchise has several New Orleans connections. Last summer, filming took place at Six Flags, the amusement park that was abandoned after Katrina. The park has also hosted filming crews from other major movies, like Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters and Dawn of the Planet Apes.

Jurassic World also filmed scenes at the Louis Armstrong International Airport, and the Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans East operated by Big Easy Studios. The movie features a cameo from honorary New Orleanian Jimmy Buffet, whose Margaritaville restaurant is a French Quarter favorite. In the movie, Buffet avoids a dinosaur attack, running away holding full margaritas.
