Emancipator Ensemble kicked off their fall tour at Republic on Tuesday night. The ethereal, down tempo set featured songs off the new record, Seven Seas, which released on September 25.
The evolution from solo producer to a four piece live band has set Doug Appling to the top of his craft. Aided onstage by violinist Ilya Goldberg, drummer Colby Buckler, and bassist Mub Fractal, Emancipator Ensemble threw down a perfect union of live instruments and electronic components to submerge the crowd in its delicate, ambient sound. The performance was a head rush of refined rhythm, mysterious melodies, and notes filled with powerful emotion.
