Dummy Dumpster continue to tap into the bizarre, alternative side of New Orleans rock with their newest release, Imperial Gland. The closest I can get to an apt description of their music is crude-rock second-wave punk. Song titles like “Bloody Fist,” “Tentacle Creatures” and “Sensitive Skin” set the tone for an album full of references to blood and other body fluids. With vocalist Michael Schadwell sounding somewhere between David Byrne and a screamo front man, the band’s fast-paced, surf-rock-esque sound becomes the background to a series of bizarre anecdotal twists and turns that seem to be played out in a sweaty, dim basement.
