Tales of the Cocktail

Tales
of the
Cocktail

By Su-Jit Lin

A festival just five years young, Tales of the Cocktail can already tell its story in numbers. 7250 refreshing mint leaves, 3580 cute cuts of lime, 1900 slices of orange, 800 sweet watermelon cubes, and 560 dried cherries soaked in gin was the count for last year, and the organizers for the “Most Spirited Event of the Summer” plan on even greater numbers for this summer’s five-day gathering of cocktail connoisseurs and those just looking for a fun way to beat the heat.
For anyone looking to learn more about the exotic cultures of favorite spots like the ever-Cosmopolitan city of Manhattan, Singapore (Sling, that is), Cape Cod, or London and its Fog, demonstrations, tastings, seminars, and cocktail pairing events are slated to take place during the festival. Others may prefer to learn in the tropics, by having Sex on the Beach, mingling with a Mama from Bahama, or experiencing various sunrises and sunsets, which may or may not involve tequila. Award-winning bartenders, mixologists, authors, and chefs will be there to lead the way, with book-signings and discussions.
From Wednesday, July 16 to Sunday, July 20, the thirsty will be flocking around the birthplace of the modern cocktail, New Orleans and the French Quarter, mingling at the elegant Hotel Monteleone for a truly sensory experience, as they see, taste, absorb, and touch the world of the internationally acclaimed drinks that keep us all going.
